We received this report about two alumns who recently achieved outstanding athletic success:
Two 2008 graduates of the German Saturday School Boston participated in this year’s Massachusetts All-State Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 27, 2009 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center: On the girl’s side, Kathryn Martin of Westwood ran a strong time of 3:06.51 in the 1000M race, which bested both her seed and qualifying performance time. She also ran the anchor leg for Westwood’s 4 x 800 relay team, which competed at Nationals March 14, 2009 at the Reggie track.
With a time of 35.68, Davis VanOpdorp of Winchester won the 300M All-State championship on February 27 by 0.01 second. At the New England Interscholastic Indoor Track & Field Championships held March 6, 2009 at Reggie, in his final 300M race, VanOpdorp finished third with a time of 35.45 seconds. The fastest Massachusetts time in the event this year, his performance stands as a personal and new Winchester High School indoor track record.
Both track stars will be attending Division I universities this Fall. Martin plans to study Architecture at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. VanOpdorp intends to major in Sports Broadcasting at Boston University. His first two years he will be in the ”CGS” Program (College of General Studies), located in a building he knows well after 13 years at our school!
Congratulations to Kathryn Martin and Davis VanOpdorp - and good luck this spring during your final high school outdoor season!
