Where to Go When the Kids are in School...

We thank everyone for their understanding that we may not use the street-level floor including the lobby at the CGS building (871 Commonwealth Ave.) on Saturdays when school is in session. We understand that many parents like to gather with other parents, meet new ones or "network".  We have a few suggestions on where to go:

Panera Bread Café
The Panera Bread Café across the CGS building on Commonwealth Avenue has become a favorite for parents to enjoy coffee and community last year, some would say because of its Wi-Fi hot spot, others just love the breakfast and bakery menu.

Buick Street Market & Café
The Buick Café is just around the corner (really!) and counts a Dunkin' Donuts among its offerings. It's got plenty of space to sit and work or chat. The location is 10 Buick Street and it's open on Saturdays from 8am on during the semester (just remember that it is closed on a few Saturdays when BU is not in session).

George Sherman Union
The Union Court  is located a little further down at 775 Commonwealth Avenue towards Boston on the same side as the CGS Building where our classes are held. The Sherman Union offers a Starbucks, a bagel and pizza shop and plenty of space to sit.

Starbucks
Many of you already know the Starbucks across the street at 874 Commonwealth Avenue. It's a smaller space, but you'll always see familiar faces from the German Saturday School there on Saturday mornings.

Playground on Minot Park
Do you have small children in tow that are not at German School yet? There's a wonderful playground an easy 4 blocks walk away on St. Paul Street (between Freeman and Browne Streets) with plenty of climbing and playing opportunity - weather permitting of course.

Upper Crust
Next to Panera Bread on Commonwealth Avenue is an Upper Crust pizzeria. It's not the place to hang out during school hours (I believe it opens at 11.00AM), but it might be a great place to pick up a slice of pizza or two for those hungry German students when they are dismissed at 12.30pm.

Clear Flour Bread Bakery
If you're up for a little longer walk, there's a wonderful small but prolific bakery called "Clear Flour Bread" on 178 Thorndike Street about 10-15 minutes walk away that offers a range of yummy breads and other baked items, including an authentic German Rye Bread and a "Vollkornbrot".
If you have more ideas on what to do if you have to "kill time" on Saturday mornings, please write us and we'll add it to the list!
