On April 5th, the library team honored Kris VanOpdorp for her long-standing work as a founder and supporter of what from now on will be called the "Krisjann VanOpdorp Bücherei an der Deutschen Sonnabendschule Boston". Kris founded the library as a parent initiative ("Elternbücherei") shortly after she enrolled her daughter in 1992. Since then she's worked tirelessly to improve and grow the library as a parent volunteer, and also, for many years, a school committee member. She's overseen the implementation of a fully-automated lending system and the transition of the library as parent-owned initiative into the German Saturday School Boston (which since May 2006 it is now part of). The library currently features more than 5,700 books and media items and remains a mainstay of our school, providing families and teachers with an invaluable service. Kris will leave our school at the end of this year as her youngest son graduates from Level 10. Please read Kris's Personal Farewell Letter to our school community. Thank you, Kris, for all your work and positive energy for our library! (In October 2007, Kris received an award presented by the GLSC. You can read about it here).
