"Germans in America" - contact WGBH to get it on the air

You may have heard about the four-part television series  "Germans in America" which recounts the story of German immigrants to the United States. This series, coinciding with the 400th anniversary of the first Germans settling in America, was originally broadcast in Europe and is being distributed, according to the Goethe Institut, to public television stations across the U.S starting March 16.

The four episodes (Into the Promised Land; The Price of Freedom, Little Germanies, and A People Disappears) feature gripping stories about naive settlers and successful farmers, about devout freethinkers and political refugees, about the heyday of the German-language press in America, and about the founders of industrial dynasties in the new homeland. More information is available at the Goethe Institut Web site.

Karl Knoblauch of the Boylston Schul-Verein has contacted our local Public Television station, WGBH, and inquired about the series. He's been told that the station is aware of the program, but has not evaluated it yet. He suggests that calls and emails would help get the series on the air. If you'd like to contact WGBH, you can use their contact form or call 617-300-5400.
