1. One library card is issued per family. Lost or stolen cards will result in a replacement fee of $5 per card. A $5 fee will also apply for any additional card per family. Unless a family no longer has a student enrolled at the school, the library card has no expiration date and must be kept for future years while attending the German Saturday School Boston. Returning families must retain their library cards each school year to avoid the replacement fee.
2. Book, audiocassette, video/DVD, software and CD returns and check-out are every Saturday morning that German Saturday School regular classes are held at BU’s College of General Studies from 9:00 to 11:15 a.m. on the lower level in Room 113. (Students must be on their way to class by 9:25 a.m. For their convenience, please note the Library is also available during the first school break: for students up to Level 6 from 10:30 to 10:40 a.m. and for older students from 10:55 to 11:15 a.m. However for security purposes, younger students must be accompanied by an adult to leave their classroom floor during school hours.) Please have your card with you for check-out. (Note that returns and check-out priority is given first to teachers and visiting classes and then to families presenting their library card.)
3. All items borrowed absolutely must be returned on time – in the case of a longer break due to the Weihnachtsfeier, school vacations or cancellation of class, on the next Saturday classes are held at B.U. Renewal may be possible as outlined below. In the event of illness or emergency, items may be returned via mail in a well-padded envelope to the school address printed on the reverse side of library card.

Lost Items

Lost or damaged material: replacement cost
Items that have not been returned for than 100 days: the replacement value will be automatically charged to the member's account.
(Many older titles are no longer in print, thus truly collector’s items. Impress on your child continually the importance of taking special care of all German treasures!)
4. Each due or overdue item must be checked back in before you will be permitted to borrow. To maximize their availability to students and parents in the classroom, teachers should be encouraged to proceed immediately to the front of the line. YOUR PATIENCE AND COOPERATION ARE IMPORTANT. Remember that parents have until 11:15 a.m. to benefit from library offerings. On days with longer lines, feel free to leave your library card and items you wish to borrow with a library volunteer – then come back after 10:15 a.m. for a quicker library check-out.
5. It is a parent’s responsibility to report any damage to a library volunteer. BEFORE RETURNING items to the Library, each item should be checked carefully, and all possible repairs made. (Please use Scotch Magic Tape only, sold in a green box!) VERIFY CONTENTS of plastic bag sets, that the title you are returning matches the title on the cassette, video, DVD or CD/software case, and that all tapes have been rewound to the beginning. Mismatches will not be accepted, and the per week PER ITEM late fine will apply. (See Note 3 above.)
6. A supervising adult must accompany any student under 11 checking out an item(s) before school or during the first school break. Item(s) borrowed must be protected by a bag or backpack and taken with the adult. It is essential that Library items never be left unattended in the hallways!
Please make full use of the school’s collection to maximize your family’s enjoyment. Be mindful that misuse of an item deprives all other families, students and teachers from equal access to these German resources. Appreciate that all time-consuming administration and follow-up is provided by parent volunteers like you. Parent assistance is welcomed any Saturday personal time allows. Donations of German children’s books, original recordings or CD-ROMs are gratefully accepted. An acknowledgment of your gift is guaranteed on every item contributed. Your participation in all Library initiatives – the German Books & Media Fair (before Thanksgiving), the Teacher Dankeschön Program (offered before the December holidays as well as at the end of the school year), the Thema der Woche (upon teacher request), Eltern-Leseecke (every Saturday), the Fleamarket (in late March) and the annual Library Maintenance Workshop (the final Saturday at BU in May) - is invaluable!
