Here's a list of summer camps and classes that involve learning or using the German language! We have updated a few listings as we have received more information:
All parents should be advised that on Saturday, April 25 two events will take place at BU's Agganis Arena (one starting at 10.30AM and one at 2PM) that will effect our parking situation that day. Parents should arrive early and should expect that on street parking may be necessary. Under no circumstances should parents enter Buick Street to access the lot behind our building unless they have a special parking permit.
It will be hands on learning for several classes from the upper grades who will get to go on a field trip to the Goethe-Institut on Beacon Street on April 25! The Goethe-Institut is about to open its interactive exhibit "Virtual Wall / ReConstructing the Wall" (April 24 - May 6) to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall - and our students will be among the first to be on site. The Goethe-Institut is making special arrangements to accommodate our student groups and we are grateful for their cooperation. For these students, this exhibit wraps up nicely the work they did on the Berlin Wall as part of the curriculum as well as the essays they wrote on "20 Jahre danach - Fall der Berliner Mauer" for the annual ZfA-Essay Contest.
Coolidge Corner Theater on Harvard Street in Brookline is screening "Nacht vor Augen" ("Hero's Welcome", Germany 2008) on Sunday, April 19 at 11AM in German with English subtitles as part of their World Cinema Series. The May movie will be "Finnischer Tango" ("Finnish Tango", Germany, 2008) to be seen on May 17 at 11AM. To read more about these movies, view Coolidge Corner's Web site.
The library would like to thank everyone involved in last week's flea market : from the team under Angelika Mayman and Stephanie South in charge of the flea market to parents donating and coming to shop. We hope you all found something you liked. Just looking at the long line of tables filled with books, games and more was impressive - and from what we hear, this was the largest flea market the school has ever had. As previously mentioned, all proceeds from the sales are going back into the library funds to purchase new books in the future. So, thank you everyone for making it such a success!

Two 2008 graduates of the German Saturday School Boston participated in this year’s Massachusetts All-State Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 27, 2009 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center:

The German International School in Allston is inviting interested families to their "Schul-Flohmarkt" / Flea Market on Sunday, April 5 from 11AM to 2PM in the school's auditorium. For sale will be everything from children's books to DVDs, toys and clothes. There will be Kaffee und Kuchen (coffee and cake), and maybe even some bratwursts for the hungry shoppers. Cash only. Parking is advised at the Brigthon Mills Shopping Center (370 Western Ave). Click for invitation.
On a recent Saturday morning, about 50 parents flocked to the auditorium on the 5th floor to attend our “double-hitter” morning program, the official PASCH plaque ceremony followed by a presentation on raising a bilingual child by Dr. Naomi Steiner, also a parent at our school. Judging from the conversations parents had afterwards over coffee and donuts outside the auditorium, both programs were well received! Here’s a quick glance at what this was about:
The German International School Boston is offering, for the first time, full-time scholarships for students entering grades 8-10 for the 2009/10 school year. From what we understand, this scholarship program is primarily directed at families currently living in the Boston area, but who have not considered to send their child to the German International School for financial reasons. Applications should include a resume, cover letter, references from German teachers, report cards etc. and be sent by March 31. For questions and to inquire in detail about this program, contact Gabriele Zerwas, head of student enrollment at the German International School at (617) 783 2600 or gabriele.zerwas@gisbos.org.
The German International School is also accepting applications from students from Germany, Austria or Switzerland who would like to spend a year (Gastschuljahr) at the school. Students who are considering a "Gastschuljahr" should consult this guide for questions.
