Countdown... Update on Library and Abschlussfest

Spring is here, and there are only a few more Saturdays left on our school calendar! We have regular classes on May 2 and 9 and we cordially invite all families to our "Abschlussfest" on Saturday, May 16 to celebrate the end of the school year at the Boylston Schul-Verein in Walpole. For those of you who have not joined us there in the past - this is an outdoor event held - rain or shine - under the pavilion. Students should arrive by 9.45am to ensure a prompt start of the official program at 10AM.  For directions to the Boylston Schul-Verein, click here. We always advise families to dress warmly, as even on a warm spring day, it is often quite chilly under the shady pavilion roof where the presentations are held. There will be food for everyone following the official program as well as games for the children (thank you event team for working hard on providing food and entertainment for all!).

Quick reminder from the library: Please return all library items by May 2nd or May 9th at the latest, the two last days that our libary is open during this school year. In addition, you will have the option again of "Sommerausleihe / Summer Reading" : You may check out items over the summer on May 2nd or May 9th after having established an account in good standing (this means after having returned all items and - if applicable - payed all accumulated late fees and clarified the status of lost items with the library team members.) Items checked out over the summer need to be returned on the second school day of the new school year.

Here's a list of summer camps and classes that involve learning or using the German language! We have updated a few listings as we have received more information:

It's official, we're a "Partnerschule der Zukunft" and the (sometimes rocky) road to bilingualism

On a recent Saturday morning, about 50 parents flocked to the auditorium on the 5th floor to attend our “double-hitter” morning program, the official PASCH plaque ceremony followed by a presentation on raising a bilingual child by Dr. Naomi Steiner, also a parent at our school. Judging from the conversations parents had afterwards over coffee and donuts outside the auditorium, both programs were well received! Here’s a quick glance at what this was about:

2009 AATG results for our school

The 2009 AATG results have arrived, and as in the past, our school's average raw score is about 90. (Briefly to explain: the raw score is the result of how many questions out of 100 have been answered correctly. The national average is 70). Congratulations to all students in grades 6 through 10 who took this test on January 10. We'd like to particularly mention the impressive results of our 9th, 10th and even a few 8th grade students who took level 4 (the highest difficulty level of this test): 73% of all of them achieved a raw score of 90 and higher. Furthermore,

Baby news

Baby boom at our school: Congratulations to Aurelie Kamdem who is teaching 6B and who gave birth to her daugther Lizabbigail on Valentine's Day, February 14th. Amazingly, Ms. Kamdem was back at work already the following week, not missing even one class. Three weeks later to the day, Aedan Alexander Mitchell was born on March 7th. Mr. Mitchell is teaching 7A this year at our school. Congratulations from all of us at the Saturday School to the Kamdem and Mitchell families for the healthy arrivals of their children. How appropriate that both babies were born on a Saturday - no doubt the best day of the week!
