"Jump Into German: Eins, zwei, drei" for children K-1

Silvia James, Kindergarten teacher at our school, offers a "Jump Into German: Eins, Zwei, Drei" language camp for children entering grades K and 1 from July 7 to August 1. Classes take place in the mornings at Minuteman High School in Lexington, where Silvia is working in the Early Childhood Department. See the Minuteman Summer brochure (page 19) for details on this class - hurry, there are still a few spaces left!

Uta Fuchs wins grant to attend ACTFL Conference

This just came in: Uta Fuchs, 2nd Grade teacher and head teacher for the elementary level grades at our school won a grant to pay for the participation at the ACTFL Conference in Florida this fall. The ACTFL Conference is the largest conference of teachers of foreign languages in the U.S. and a great forum to learn about the latest teaching methods in foreign language instruction. The grant was given by the StADaF (Ständige Arbeitsgruppe Deutsch als Fremdsprache) Group at the German Embassy in Washington, D.C. (with support of their arts & culture department). 11 grants were selected by lottery - and Uta Fuchs was among the lucky winners. Congratulations!

Boylston Schul-Verein: Sommerfest on June 21 + 22

Longing for some authentic German food, drinks and entertainment? The annual "Sommerfest" at the Boylston Schul-Verein is a great summer family event not to be missed! This year's festival is scheduled for June 21 and 22. More information on the event is posted on their Web site and flyer.

2nd prize in German skit competition goes to 7A

Hanna Luecke's 7A won 2nd prize in the AATG 2nd annual New England-wide German skit competition. The title of their winning skit: "Der Kasperle bekommt einen Freund" - congratulations to the entire class for writing, producing (on DVD) and submitting a skit in this competition and taking home 2nd prize!

Musikgarten: Music Summer Camps in German in August

Dunja Pechstein, former Music teacher at our school, informed us about her first summer music camp in German as part of her Musikgarten program for children ages 2 through 10.  The camp is scheduled for August 4th - 27th (Mondays & Wednesdays) in Belmont:
Ages 2 - 3.5:     10:00-10:45AM
Ages 3.5 - 6:    11:00AM - 12:00PM
Ages 6 - 10:      12:30PM - 2:30PM

Canton Choral Society: Brahms' "Liebeslieder - Walzer" on June 15

The Canton Choral Society is performing Johannes Brahms' "Liebeslieder - Walzer" in German at their upcoming concert on Sunday, June 15th at 3:00PM in the Canton High School auditorium, located at 900 Washington Street in Canton. Tickets are $10 per person and $7 per student with ID. See flyer for more information.

German International School Boston: Musical on June 20

Students of the Musical Club at the German International School Boston present "Leben im All" - a musical journey through the Galaxy on Friday, June 20 at 7pm in the school's auditorium. The event is free, donations are welcome. Visit the school's Web site for more information.

Yes, it was raining in the morning, but by the time the official "Abschlussfeier" program concluded under the pavilion the sun was shining at the Boylston Schul-Verein in Walpole, the games were on and the food was delicious. A huge thank you to the entire faculty and especially our music teachers, Birgit Danckert und Katja Schoenherr, for working with the students on this year's performances - from the "Papageienlied" to the "Saturday School Rap". Congratulations to those who were officially recognized during the program:

Summer Fun: German Course for Teenagers

Does your teenager need to brush up on his/her German during the summer? The Goethe-Institut Boston is offering a three-week "Conversation and Grammar Review for Level A2" Course - just for teenagers. Classes are held from 9:45-12.30pm, June 30 through July 17. This contest is issued and sponsored by the ZfA ("Zentralstelle für Auslandsschulwesen") for the Eastern half of the United States. This year's topic, one on many minds these days: "Environmental Protection". There were more than 700 entries in total, 90 alone from the German Saturday School Boston. We'd like to thank our teachers who encouraged and helped students to submit essays and congratulate our seven winners!
