"Der Freischütz" Opera at Majestic Theatre October 17, 19 and 21

Something for the opera fan: "Der Freischütz", the Romantic opera based on a folk legend by Carl Maria von Weber will be performed in German with English subtitles for the first time in 25 years in Boston at the Majestic Theatre on October 17, 19 and 21. There will be pre-opera lectures as well. Check for performance times and tickets on the Majestic Theatre Web site.

Wiener Sängerknaben (Vienna Boys Choir) visit Lynn for Holiday Concert on 12/9

It's not too early to make holiday plans! On Tuesday, December 9th at 7.30pm, the famous Wiener Sängerknaben (Vienna Boys Choir) from Austria will visit the Memorial Auditorium in Lynn for a concert featuring contemporary and classic holiday favorites. I couldn't find specifics yet on the songs, but there sure should be a few in German. Learn more about the famous choir here. It's time for the BSV's biggest event of the year: the annual Oktoberfest! On Saturday, September 6 from noon to 11pm and on Sunday, September 7, from noon to 6pm, music, dancing. games and of course, German food and drinks will be provide many hours of fun. Goethe-Institut: Open House and German Dance Party on 9/13

The Goethe-Institut Boston (Germany's official cultural center abroad) invites the public to their Back Bay mansion on Saturday, September 13 from 4 - 11pm. Highlights of this day include German book sales, German food and drinks, a preview of this year's event calendar, a mini-German course and, beginning at 7pm, dancing in the ballroom to the latest German pop music. Musikgarten: Music Summer Camps in German in August

Dunja Pechstein, former Music teacher at our school, informed us about her first summer music camp in German as part of her Musikgarten program for children ages 2 through 10.  The camp is scheduled for August 4th - 27th (Mondays & Wednesdays) in Belmont:
Ages 2 - 3.5:     10:00-10:45AM
Ages 3.5 - 6:    11:00AM - 12:00PM
Ages 6 - 10:      12:30PM - 2:30PM

Canton Choral Society: Brahms' "Liebeslieder - Walzer" on June 15

The Canton Choral Society is performing Johannes Brahms' "Liebeslieder - Walzer" in German at their upcoming concert on Sunday, June 15th at 3:00PM in the Canton High School auditorium, located at 900 Washington Street in Canton.
