The German Saturday School Boston is a member school of the German Language School Conference (GLSC), a national umbrella organization for private German language schools in the United States. These member schools, which operate mostly on Saturdays, serve children from preschool through high school and adults.
The organization's goal is to project a positive image of the language and culture of the German-speaking countries and to represent our member schools and their interests. The GLSC provides a forum for pedagogical, administrative, legal, social and other issues for our member schools and offers teachers continuous education while creating a setting for sharing pedagogical ideas and professional experiences.
The GLSC enjoys the support of the German government (Bundesverwaltungsamt/Central Agency for Schools Abroad, the German Language Consultants in the US), the Verein für deutsche Kulturbeziehungen im Ausland (VDA), the German Embassy in Washington and its affiliated Consulates, the Literary Society Foundation, Mercedes-Benz, and many others. For more information see the info video or visit the GLSC's Web site at www.germanschools.org.
Musikgarten is an internationally known early childhood music program. Dunja Pechstein, a former music teacher at our school, is offering Musikgarten classes for 1.5-5 year old children in German. Music is a wonderful tool to deepen the understanding of a foreign language. Children sing in a different language a long time before the are able to speak the language. Summer 2011 programs are offered for children ages 6-9 and under 5 in August. To learn more about Musikgarten and Dunja's regular and summer programs, visit www.musikgarten.org/boston.
Our school enjoys the support of the German Consulate in Boston. Members of the consulate staff, including the Consul General, visit the school to attend special events including exams, Abschluss- and Weihnachtsfeiern and the presentation of German language diplomas to our school's exam candidates. The German Consulate Boston maintains a Web site with information on German related news and events in the Greater Boston area that is worth checking out!
If you are looking for extra tutoring in German, whether it's in addition to classes you or your children are already taking or because this is your preferred method of learning the language, we have a list of teachers at the German Saturday School that also tutor outside of our school.
